I was the cupbearer of the people on the day when alcohol was forbidden. Some of Abu Talhah’s companions had gathered around him, and a man came and said: Beware, alcohol has been forbidden. So Abu Talha said to me: Go out and find out. So I went out and I heard someone calling: Beware, alcohol has been forbidden. So I told him. So he [Abu Talhah] said: Then go and pour it out. Annas said: So I came and poured it out. Annas continued: Some of them said: Suhayl ibn Beidha' was killed while it [wine] was in his stomach. Then Allah revealed: {There is no blame on those who believe and do good for what they had consumed...} [Al-Ma'idah: 93] to the end of the verse. Annas said: And their wine that day was the unripe dates and dates.
I saw the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) sitting at the corner [of Ka'bah]. He raised his eyes to the sky and laughed and said thrice: May Allah curse the Jews. Allah Almighty forbade them fats, but they sold it and ate its price. When Allah Almighty forbids people to eat something, he also forbids them its price.
