The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to say in his supplications: O Allah, I seek refuge in you from the torture of Hell, I seek refuge in you from the torture of the grave, I seek refuge in you from the trial of the Antichrist, and I seek refuge in you from the trial of life and death.
A Jewish woman came to me asking. She said: May Allah protect you from the torture of the grave. When the Prophet (PBUH) came, I said: O Messenger of Allah, will we be tortured in the graves? He said: I seek refuge in Allah and he climbed onto his ride, then the sun eclipsed. So I came out, and I was in the middle of the rooms with the women. Then the Prophet (PBUH) came back from his ride and went to his place of prayer, and the people prayed behind him. So he stood up -reciting- for a long time, then he bowed for a long time. Then he raised his head and stood up for a long time, then he bowed for a long time. Then he raised his head and stood up for a long time. Then he prostrated for a long time. Then he stood up but for a shorter time than his first standing. Then he bowed for a shorter time than his first bowing. Then he stood up for a shorter time than his first standing. Then he bowed for a shorter time than his first bowing. Then he prostrated for a shorter time than his first prostration. So it was four rak’ahs and four prostrations, and the sun shined up. He said: You are being tried in the graves like the trial of the Antichrist. She said: Then I heard him later seeking refuge in Allah from the torture of the grave.
The Prophet (PBUH) went out after the sun had set and heard a voice, so he said: These are Jews being tortured in their graves.
I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) seeking refuge in Allah from the torture of the grave.
