(154) And do not say about those who are killed in the way of Allah, "They are dead." Rather, they are alive, but you perceive [it] not.
(156) O you who have believed, do not be like those who disbelieved and said about their brothers when they traveled through the land or went out to fight, "If they had been with us, they would not have died or have been killed," so Allah makes that [misconception] a regret within their hearts. And it is Allah who gives life and causes death, and Allah is Seeing of what you do. (157) And if you are killed in the cause of Allah or die - then forgiveness from Allah and mercy are better than whatever they accumulate [in this world]. (158) And whether you die or are killed, unto Allah you will be gathered.
(169) And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision. (170) Rejoicing in what Allah has bestowed upon them of His bounty, and they receive good tidings about those [to be martyred] after them who have not yet joined them - that there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve. (171) They receive good tidings of favor from Allah and bounty and [of the fact] that Allah does not allow the reward of believers to be lost.
(5) He will guide them and amend their condition. (6) And admit them to Paradise, which He has made known to them.
Whoever sincerely asks Allah for martyrdom, Allah will grant him the status of martyrs, even if he dies in his bed.
A man came to the Prophet (PBUH) and said, O Messenger of Allah, if I am killed in the cause of Allah, patiently and having the best expectations of Allah, facing up and not backing off (advancing and not retreating); will Allah expiate my sins? So the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) replied: Yes. After the man turned away, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) called or commanded the man to be called, so he was called. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said to him: What did you say?The man repeated his question, so the Prophet (PBUH) said: Yes, except debt, Gabriel told me so.
Allah smiles at two men one of whom kills the other; both of them will enter Paradise. Companions said: How, Messenger of Allah? He said: One is killed (in the cause of Allah) and enters Paradise. Then Allah forgives the other and guides him to Islam; then he fights in the cause of Allah and gets martyred.
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) sent Buseisah [as a scout] to see what Abu Sufyan’s caravan had done. He came back and there was no one in the house except me and the Messenger of Allah (PBUH). Thabit said: I do not remember whether Anas made an exception of some of the Prophet's wives or not, then he continued telling the story. Anas continued: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) went out and spoke. He said: We have a mission. Whoever has his mount ready, let him ride with us. Some men began to ask his permission to get their mounts from the highlands of Medina. He said: No, except whoever has his mount ready. So the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and his companions set off until they had preceded the disbelievers [forestalling them] to Badr. Later, the disbelievers arrived. So the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Let none of you advance to anything until I give him permission. When the disbelievers started to approach, the Messenger of Allah said: Get up to a paradise as wide as the heavens and the earth. Narrator said: 'Umeir ibn Al-Humam Al-Ansari exclaimed: O Messenger of Allah, a paradise as wide as the heavens and the earth?! The Prophet (PBUH) replied: Yes. So 'Umeir said: Way to go, way to go! The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: What makes you say way to go?! 'Umeir said: Nothing, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah, except the hope that I will be among its [Paradise] people. The Prophet (PBUH) said: You are among its people. So 'Umeir took out some dates from his bag and began to eat them. Then he said: If I live until I eat these dates, it would be a long life. He then threw away the dates he had, and fought them until he was killed.
