(95) Not equal are those believers remaining [at home] - other than the disabled - and the mujahideen, [who strive and fight] in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has preferred the mujahideen through their wealth and their lives over those who remain [behind], by degrees. And to both Allah has promised the best [reward]. But Allah has preferred the mujahideen over those who remain [behind] with a great reward. (96) Degrees [of high position] from Him and forgiveness and mercy. And Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful.
(111) Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah, so they kill and are killed. [It is] a true promise [binding] upon Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur"an. And who is truer to his covenant than Allah? So rejoice in your transaction which you have contracted. And it is that which is the great attainment.
(69) And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good.
A man came to the Prophet (PBUH) and said: O Messenger of Allah, teach me a deed that is equivalent to jihad. The Prophet (PBUH) said: I cannot find one. He added: When the Mujahid goes out; can you enter a mosque and stand in prayer without slackening and fast without breaking your fast? The man replied: I cannot.
For the one who fights in the cause of Allah, going out of his home only for jihad in his cause and the belief in his words; Allah undertakes that he will admit him to Paradise or return him to his abode from which he got out with the reward or booty he has obtained.
To set out in the morning or in the evening in the cause of Allah is better than this world and all that is in it.
There is no self in a good position before Allah would be pleased to return to this world except the martyr, for he is pleased to return to this world and be killed -again- for what he sees of the virtue of martyrdom [privilages of the martyr].
At one of the battles, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) waited until the sun had set, then he stood among the people and said: O people, do not wish to meet the enemy, and ask Allah for well-being. -But- If you meet them, be patient and know that Paradise is under the shade of swords. Then he said: O God, Revealer of the Book, the One who moves the clouds, and Defeater of the Parties, defeat them and grant us victory over them.
Allah smiles at two men one of whom kills the other; both of them will enter Paradise. Companions said: How, Messenger of Allah? He said: One is killed (in the cause of Allah) and enters Paradise. Then Allah forgives the other and guides him to Islam; then he fights in the cause of Allah and gets martyred.
