The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to order the Mu'azthen to call for the prayer, then to call -people- to pray in your dwellings on cold or rainy nights while traveling.
Ibn Abbas ordered the mu'azthen to call to prayer on Friday, which was a rainy day, so he said: Allah is greater, Allah is greater, I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Then Ibn Abbas said to him: Call among the people so that they may pray at their homes. So people said to him: What is this that you have done? He replied: He -the Holy Prophet PBUH- who is better than me, did it. Are you telling me that I should bring people out of their houses and come to me -to attend to prayer- wading through the mud up to their knees?
