Al-Hasan took one of the dates of the charity and put it in his mouth, so the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said to him: Yuck, spit it out. Did not you notice that we do not eat from charity?!

Sometimes, when I go back to my family, I find a date lying on my bed or in my house, so I pick it up to eat it, then I leave it lest it might be from charity.

Whenever food was brought to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) from someone other than his family, he would ask about it. If it was said to be a gift, he would eat it; but if it was said to be charity, he would say [to his companions]: Eat, and he would not eat.
