I came to Medina while seeking the allowance from 'Uthman ibn 'Affan. I sat in a circle of Qureish, then a man came wearing tattered clothes and wrapping a garment around his head. He said: Give glad tidings to the hoarders of wealth of burns on their foreheads, on their backs, and on their sides. Then he moved to a pillar and prayed two rak'ahs behind it. I asked: Who is this? They said: This is Abu Ztharr. So, I said to him: What is that I heard you calling out? He replied: I only said to them what they had heard from their Prophet (PBUH). I asked him: May Allah have mercy on you. I used to take the allowance from 'Umar. What do you think? He said: Take it, for today it is assistance. But soon it will become a debt, and when it becomes a debt, then reject it.
