I, Husein ibn Sabra and 'Umar ibn Muslim went to Zeid ibn Arqam. When we sat down with him, Husein said to him: O Zeid, you have attained much goodness! You saw the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), heard his sayings, fought alongside him, and prayed with him. You have indeed attained much goodness. O Zeid. Tell us what you heard from the Messenger of Allah (PBUH). Zeid replied: O son of my brother, I have grown old, my time has passed, and I have forgotten some of what I used to remember from the Messenger of Allah (PBUH). So, accept whatever I tell you, and do not burden me with what I do not remember. Then he said: One day, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) stood up to deliver a sermon at a watering place called Khum, between Mecca and Medina. He praised and glorified Allah, exhorted and reminded us, and then said: O people! Verily, I am only a human being, and the messenger of my Lord [death] is about to come to me, and I will respond. I am leaving behind two weighty things among you: the first is the Book of Allah, in which there is guidance and light, so take hold of the Book of Allah and adhere to it. He urged people to follow the Book of Allah and encouraged it. Then he said: And my family, I remind you by Allah regarding my family, I remind you by Allah regarding my family, I remind you by Allah regarding my family. Husein asked: Who are his family, O Zeid? Are not his wives part of his family? He replied: His wives are part of his family, but his family are those who are forbidden to receive charity after him. Husein asked: Who are they? Zeid replied: They are the house of 'Ali, the house of 'Aqil, the house of Ja'far, and the house of 'Abbas. Husaein asked: Are all of these forbidden to receive charity? He replied: Yes.
