A man entered the mosque and prayed while the Prophet (PBUH) was in the mosque. Then the man came to the Prophet and greeted Him. He responded and said: Go back and pray, for you have not prayed. So the man went back and repeated his prayer. This happened three times. Then the man said: By the One who sent you with the truth, I cannot do any better than this, so teach me. The prophet (PBUH) said: If you stand up to pray, do the Takbeer, then recite whatever you can from the Qur’an, then bow, until you are settled and at ease bowing, then rise until you are standing upright, then prostrate until you are settled and at ease prostrating, then rise until you are settled and at ease sitting, then do that throughout your entire prayer.
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to begin the prayer by doing At-Takbeer and reciting {Praise is due to Allah, Lord of the Worlds} [Al-Fatihah: 2], so when he bowed, he did not raise his head up nor lower it down, but in between. When he raised his head from bowing, he would not prostrate until he was settled standing upright. When he raised his head from prostrating, he did not prostrate until he was settled sitting. In every two rak’ahs he would recite (At-Taheyyat). He disliked spreading his arms like wild animals. He used to lay his left foot down, put his right foot upright, and to forbade sitting on heels like devils, and he ended the prayer with a At-Tasleem.
When the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) prayed, he would spread his arms apart so that the whiteness of his armpits was visible.
We set out until we came to the Prophet of Allah (PBUH), so we pledged allegiance to him and prayed with him. Then he caught a glimpse with the corner of his eye a man who did not settling his back upright while bowing and prostrating. When the Prophet (PBUH) finished the prayer, he said, O Muslim people, there is no prayer for a person who does not settling his back upright while bowing and prostrating.
