When the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) came to Medina, 'Abdullah ibn Salam was informed of his arrival while he was in his palm grove. So he came to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and said: I am going to ask you about things that only a prophet knows. If you tell me about them, I will believe in you, but if you do not know them, I will know that you are not a prophet. He asked him about resemblance, and about the first thing the people of Paradise will eat, and about the first thing that will assemble people [on the Day of Resurrection]. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Gabriel has just told me about them now. 'Abdullah ibn Salam commented: That is the enemy of the Jews. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: As for resemblance, if the man’s discharge precedes the woman’s discharge, the resemblance goes to the father, and if the woman’s discharge precedes the man’s discharge, the resemblance goes to the mother. As for the first thing the people of Paradise will eat, it is the whale liver. As for the first thing that will assemble people, it is a fire that will come out from the east and corral them to the west. So 'Abdullah ibn Salam believed and said: I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah. He added: O Messenger of Allah, the Jews are a people of slanders and lies, and if they hear of my conversion to Islam, they will slander me. So hide me with you and send to them and ask them about me. So the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) hid him and sent to them. They came and he asked them: Which man is 'Abdullah ibn Salam among you? They said: He is the best of us and the son of the best of us, our master and the son of our master, our scholar and the son of our scholar. He said: Do you think that if he becomes a Muslim, would you become Muslims? They said: May Allah protect him from this. So he said: O 'Abdullah ibn Salam, come out and inform them. So he came out and said: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. They said: The worst of us and the son of the worst of us, the most ignorant among us, and the son of the most ignorant among us. Ibn Salam said: I have told you, O Messenger of Allah, that the Jews are a people of slanders and lies.
