Delegations came to Mu'awiyah. Abu Hureirah and I were among them, in Ramadan. Some of us made food for each other. He said: Abu Hureirah used to invite us often. So I said: Shall I not make food and invite them to my camp? Narrator said: So I ordered food to be made and I met Abu Hureirah at Isha' prayer time. I said: O Abu Hureirah, the invitation will be at my place tonight He said: You beat me to it?! He replied: Yes. Narrator continues: So I invited them and they were there with me. Abu Hureirah said: Shall I not inform you of a one of your tales, O people of the Ansar? He mentioned the conquest of Mecca. He said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) came and entered Mecca. He said: So he deputed Az-Zubeir on one of the two flanks, Khalid on the other flank, and Abu Ubaidah on armoured corps at interior of the valley. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) was in his corps. Abu Hureirah said: Qureish had swarmed their rabble. They thought: We will send these people forward. If they achieve something, we will be with them, and if they fail, we will pay what we would be commanded to. Abu Hureirah said: So the Prophet (PBUH) looked and saw me and said: O Abu Hureirah. I replied: At your call, Messenger of Allah. He said: Call out to me the Ansar. And none should come to me except them. So I called out to them and they came and surrounded the Messenger of Allah (PBUH). He said: The Messenger of Allah said: Do you see the rabble of Qureish and their followers? Then he said making a gesture with his hands one on the other: crush them thoroughly until you meet me at As-Safa. Abu Hureirah said: So we set out and none of us wanted to kill one of them except that he killed him and none of them could offer show resistance. Abu Sufyan said: O Messenger of Allah, Qureish has been obliterated. There will be no Qureish after today. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Whoever closes his door is safe and whoever enters the house of Abu Sufyan is safe. So the people closed their doors. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) went to the Black Stone and touched it and then circumambulated the House. He had a bow in his hand holding the bowstring. He came during his circumambulation to an idol beside the House which people of Qureish were worshipping. He began to stab it in the eye and say: {Truth has come and falsehood has perished..} [Al-Isra': 81]. He then came to As-Safa and climbed it where he could see the House and raised his hands and began to mention Allah as he wished to mention and to supplicate to him. The Ansar were beneath him, and some of them said to each other: As for the man [the Prophet], the love of his village and compassion for his folks overcame him. Abu Hureirah said: The revelation came down upon the Prophet (PBUH), and we used to know it when it did, and no one among the people would raise his eyes to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) until it revelation is over. Then the Prophet (PBUH) raised his head and said: O people of Ansar, did you say that the man was overcome by his love of his village and compassion for his folks? They said: We said that, O Messenger of Allah. He said: Then what is my name? No, I am the servant of Allah and his Messenger. I migrated to Allah and to you, so I will live among you and I will die among. Narrator continued: So they came to him crying and saying: By Allah, we did not say what we said except out of tenacious attachment to Allah and his Messenger. He replied: Indeed, Allah and his Messenger believe you and excuse you.
