When 'Othman ibn Muzth’oon died, Um Kharijah bint Zeid said: May goodness be upon you Abu Al-Sa’ib. It is the best of your days. The Prophet of Allah (PBUH) heard her and said: Who is this? She said: It is me. He said: What do you know? She said: O Messenger of Allah, It is 'Othman ibn Mazth’oon. Then the Messenger of Allah said: Yes, 'Othman ibn Mazth’oon. We have seen nothing but good, but this is me, the Messenger of Allah. I swear I don't know what will become of me.
A man praised another man in the presence of the Prophet (PBUH). The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Woe to you! You have cut off your friend’s neck repeatedly [harming him through inflating his ego]. If one of you must praise his friend, let him say: I think so-and-so is such-and-such, and Allah is his judge. I do not vouch for anyone before Allah. If he knows that this is true, I think he is such-and-such.
