If people knew the virtues in the call to prayer (Azthan) and the first row, and then had no choice but to draw lots for it, they would have done so, and if they knew what virtues in the attending to prayers early, they would have raced to it, and if they knew what virtues in the evening and the dawn -prayers-, they would have come even if they had to crawl.
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to move through the row from one side to the other, passing his hands over our shoulders and chests and saying: Do not differ from each other, or your hearts will be in discord. He used to say: Allah and his angels pray over those in the front rows.
Straighten rows in prayers, for straightening rows is part of a good prayer.
