(5) It is You we worship and You we ask for help. (6) Guide us to the straight path. (7) The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray.
He said to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH): Teach me a supplication to pray with in my prayers. He said say: O Allah, I have wronged myself greatly, and none forgive sins except You, so grant me forgiveness from You and have mercy on me. Indeed, You are the Forgiving and the Merciful.
One night I missed the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) from bed, so I ran my hand over until I touched the soles of his feet while he was prostrating. They were upright, and he was saying, O Allah, I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your wrath, and in your pardon from Your punishment, and I seek refuge in you from you. I cannot enumerate your praises, you are as you have praised yourself.
I spent the night at my aunt Maimoonah's house, and I watched the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) how he prayed. He got up, urinated, then washed his face and hands, then slept. Then he got up and went to the waterskin and loosened its straps, then he poured water into the bowl and poured on his hand from it, then he performed a good moderate ablution. Then he got up to pray, so I came and stood on his left, so he took me and made me stand on his right, Then the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) completed thirteen rak'ahs. Ibn Abbas said: Then he slept until he blew out his breath, and we used to know that he fell asleep when he starts to blow out his breath. Then he went out to pray and he was saying in his prayer or in his prostration: O Allah, place light in my heart, and light in my hearing, and light in my sight, and light on my right and light on my left, and light in front of me, and light behind me, and light above me, and light below me, and make me light. Shu’bah said, or he said: Give me light.
