A woman entered Hell because of a cat she owned or a cat she tied up, neither feeding it nor letting it go to pecking at the insects of the earth, until it died of emaciation.

While a man was walking on a road, he became very thirsty. He found a well, so he went down into it and drank. Then he came out and saw a dog panting and eating dirt from thirst. The man thought: This dog is extremely thirsty as I was. So he went down into the well, filled his shoe with water, held it in his mouth until he climbed up and gave the dog water to drink. Allah appreciated his action and forgave his sins. They [companions] said: O Messenger of Allah, shall we be rewarded for taking care of animals? He said: There is a reward for every living creature.

One of the prophets sat down under a tree and an ant stung him. So he ordered his equipment to be taken out from under the tree and ordered the nest to be burned in fire. Then Allah revealed to him: Wouldn't [that] one ant have been enough?!
