(224) And the poets - [only] the deviators follow them;. (225) Do you not see that in every valley they roam. (226) And that they say what they do not do?. (227) Except those [poets] who believe and do righteous deeds and remember Allah often and defend [the Muslims] after they were wronged. And those who have wronged are going to know to what [kind of] return they will be returned.
It is better for one of you to have his body filled with pus than to have it filled with poetry.
I was riding behind the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), and he said to me: Do you have some of the poetry of Umeiya ibn Abi As-Sult? I said: Yes. The Prophet (PBUH) said: Chant to me. So I chanted to him a line, and he kept saying to me: Go on, every time I chanted to him, until I chanted to him a hundred lines. Then the Prophet (PBUH) kept silent, So did I.
